Any reason to sync empty drives? unRAID does not really care if they are empty or not and the parity protection works on the level of our concept of files. is there any way to just have parity build as info is being written? that is the way it happens, but the first sync is needed to establish the protection. parity does NOT work on files. It works on every bit on every byte on every drive assigned to the array. My older array takes probably twice as long. Empty or full, it will take exactly the same time.
