Stop the server.

Array and Pool devices are not plug and play.

I have a 9201 8i they only show 9201 16i

Look for the 9211-8i, same thing.

Still a lot of resets, did you check/replace the cables?

  • Author

I checked them they looked ok, sff 8087 from card, so i dont have another, unless you mean the other cables? Everything was tight and not loose.

My cables came from amazon, CableCreation [2 Pack] Mini SAS 36Pin (SFF-8087) Male to 4 SATA 7Pin Female Cable, Mini SAS Host/Controller to 4 SATA Target/Backplane, (B07CKX62L6)

my Power connectors came from there as well, StarTech 15.7-Inch (400mm) SATA Power Splitter Adapter Cable - M/F - 4x Serial ATA Power Cable Splitter

(B0086OGN9E)

are either of these known to cause problems?

Eliminate the splitters, avoid splitting if at all possible as power can sag and cause the drives to "reset".  Make sure you're using multiple paths to the PSU and not hanging all the drives off of one wire

thanks, i'll take a look.

The power isnt all on one wire. Do you think I need to purchase a modular PSU?

My parity drive is still disabled.

Even after you get your hardware problems worked out, you have to rebuild parity to get it enabled again. Not sure if you knew that, and nobody seems to have mentioned it in this thread.

Start with parity disabled, then enable and restart?

Of course if you are still having hardware problems you will have problems with rebuild.

Parity rebuild might be a good test to see if your problems are resolved though. Parity has none of your data, and parity rebuild will read all other disks and write parity, so a good exercise of all disks and their connections.

His last diagnostics still had a drive falling out so there's that to deal with

That looks to be disk 7

IT GETS WORSE! Tried to rebuild parity. Array stoppped, I am now missing Disk 1 and disk 3, same hard drives just different serial numbers, but just shows no device and no device in the drop down for each harddrive!

  • Community Expert

Try new cables and/or a different PSU.

Bootom left corner says: Array Stopped stale configuration

Tried new cables.

  • Community Expert

If the disks are still missing try a new PSU, and check that any power/reset errors are gone before attempting rebuilds.

  • Author

As a newbie I dont know how to check for any power/reset errors. I dont have a new PSU yet. Should I try different power cables? Will that screw up identification of disks in the corrrect location or is that attributes to the sata cables?

What generally causes disks to go misssing?

Thanks for the help to all.
