Didn't i attach the hdd's diagnostics?

  • Community Expert

Sorry, can you start the array and post new diagnostics?

  • Community Expert

Looks like you rebooted after disk was disabled so can't see what caused it in syslog.

Emulated disk mounts so that is good.

SMART attributes for that disk look OK, but it is very old and hasn't had an extended SMART test run on it recently.

Do you have a spare disk you can rebuild to?

  • Author

Yeah its very old haha.

I dont have any cold spares atm no..

I replaced the cables and ports from the drive..

Anything i can do or is it toast?

Edit: so i tried the disk in question on another pc, ran smart tests..all seems normal, despite its age..at a loss now..

Do you know how to do that without losing the data that is on the drive slot currently being emulated?

Never done it before..but i read the docs :)

Don't hesitate to ask questions BEFORE you do anything permanent.

You can't replace single parity when you already have another disk disabled. Probably no good reason to remove disabled drive unless you are going to replace it.

Ok i admit i haven't read the instructions compleatly YET..

But can't i copy from the old to the new parity drive??As per instructions on the unraid wiki..

Ok so the new parity disk is finaly synced...

Can i now remove the old parity drive and set it as a data disk and rebuild onto it?

I'm confused, can you explain exactly what you did so far and why?

Maybe recap step by step where you started and what the status is right now?

And new diagnostics might help explain your explanation.

Haha sorry if im being cryptic, will attach new diagnostics in a min.

I disconnected the "failed" drive

I put in a second parity drive and synced it

Atm i have: 2 parity drives,  2 data drives active

The third data drive is disconnected.

Why?

The current parity hdd is ooold..

Got another hdd coming next week

A lot of stuff going on in syslog, including at some point unassigning parity, so I was worried about that.

But if I am reading it right, it looks like you built parity2 in maintenance mode without rebuilding parity.

Is that correct?

We really need you to spell these things out in greater detail. Why did you unassign parity at some point?

I'm still a little worried, but the simplest way to see what you have now is to start the array in normal mode and see if disk2 is emulated.

Start array in normal mode and post new diagnostics.

Hm i was doing this stuff thru my phone..so i know i miss clicked the first time.

Wait what? Im 99% sure i started the array normaly...

Ok phew...disk2 IS emulated!
