Ystebad
UPS setting - my rack mount cyber power UPS is "lost communication" I had a power failure and unclear shutdown with errors on restart so I need this working. Does anyone have a cyber power UPS working where unraid will shut down properly? Quote Link to comment
Ford Prefect
...it will depend on the exact model and connection type (USB, ETHERNET, ...). If it does not work with apcupsd, try the NUT Plugin...check compatibility here: https://networkupstools.org/stable-hcl.html Quote Link to comment

Ystebad
That's the exact same model I have and when I enable under Settings/UPS settings the "start APC UPS deamon" setting with option USB cable and UPS type "usb" I get "lost communication" error. 1 Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
Is the USB port you are using a 2.0 port not passed through for VM's? Quote Link to comment
Ystebad
I believe it's a USB3 port and I haven't done any specific passthrough for VM but I do have an ubuntu VM setup (but not currently running). Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
Try a USB 2.0 port. Quote Link to comment
Ystebad
Well this isn't good. I changed my USB cables around to see if it would help and now my server says Unraid OS missing key and all my docker etc are not accessible. Quote Link to comment

JonathanM
Unless you have this plugin installed, unplugging the USB key is fatal and will require a restart. Since the USB is no longer mounted at the moment, no configuration changes will be saved, and the array will start a parity check when you restart. As long as you fully stop the array before shutdown, you can safely cancel that check this time. Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
Do you have any USB 2.0 ports internally on the motherboard? If so, get one of these. Quote Link to comment

I guess I can try running a cable all the way around to the front of the case - janky. Isn't USB3 backwards compatible - why can't I use an open USB3 port already in place? Appreciate all your help BTW - thank you very much. Edited September 23, 2021 by Ystebad new info on case Quote Link to comment

Check the unraid log..not sure if there is a log with the nut plug-in, separately...if so, check there as well. Based on the Info from @Michael_P above and your answer, that you have the same UPS model, I'd gather your above problems with the USB stability still exists and it will not go away, just by installing NUT.Try to solve that first.....then try apcupsd first, not NUT.
