Second Hand Server Rack PC

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I am in the market for a second hand server rack and wondered if anyone had any experience setting one up? I have been looking at both HP & Dell on ebay in the UK.

For example:

  • HP DL380p Gen8 G8 12*LFF
  • Dell R720

I have seen a few postings on the HP DL380p as it has a hardware RAID controller, like the Dell ones. I just wondered:

  1. If anyone had any experience setting up a second hand rack server? Is there something I should watch out for?
  2. Any recommendations on servers that are easy to setup?

I will be using the server as a NAS w/ VMs / containers running newsgroup items and Plex server. Though plex server won't need any transcoding.

I appreciate your response @trurl, unfortunately, I don't see any second hand rack servers (formerly enterprise ones) that don't have a built in RAID controller.

Do you have any recommendations or is it just DIY / buy a second hand one & try to disable it as per this thread.

Lots of threads about this. Try this search in Google:
