M1N10N
Anyone have any issues with the biostar a760g m2+ not posting with a Sempron 140 CPU? I am going to RMA the board back, but wanted to check if anyone has run across this. I was able to get the motherboard to post with a borrowed phenom cpu and applied the bios updates. I get nothing with the sempron This is a new build and i have already replaced the sempron cpu Link to comment

Sempron's are AM3. Athlon 64 Athlon 64 X2, Athlon II, Opteron, Phenom series, Phenom II series are AM2+ Link to comment
M1N10N
i confirmed with biostar that the board and cpu are compatible...with a bios update (A76GM728.BSS). i've tried that update and 2 other bios updates that are available. it should be the same hardware from the recommended builds section. it just doesn't seem to want to cooperate with me Link to comment
grandprix
Ahh yeah ok. http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/bios.php?S_ID=394 I see now. What RAM you running? From reading, to use DDR2 1066, you have to use a AM2+ CPU. Link to comment
M1N10N
this is my build. i have it out of the case to rule out any shorts. im only using the motherboard, power supply, 1 stick RAM, and cpu. i think i've verified all the hardware by replacing the cpu and getting the motherboard/ram to post with the phenom processor. thanks for looking. this is the first build i've really been stuck on http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103698&Tpk=sempron%20140 http://cgi.ebay.com/BIOSTAR-A760G-M2-SOCKET-AM2-AM3-MOTHERBOARD-AMD-CHIPS-/370478094229?pt=Motherboards&hash=item5642371795#ht_2469wt_943 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134636 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139017&Tpk=corsair%20430w Link to comment
Rajahal
Your hardware should be fine (assuming it isn't defective), it is all compatible. I've used the same hardware in countless builds. Make sure you are using all the BIOS settings indicated here: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hardware_Compatibility#First_Time_Configuration I've also never needed to update BIOS to get the Biostar board to work with the Sempron 140 CPU, but I guess it couldn't hurt. If the board will POST with a Phenom but not with the Sempron, then that would indicate to me that the Sempron is defective, not the board.... Link to comment
grandprix
Hmm. Can't tell why it wouldn't be posting in that case. If the BIOS shows it's been successfully updated through the setup (it indeed shows the proper version), dunno. Use the known working CPU and both sticks of RAM (may as well they're dual channel and using one is slowing the computer). But make a Memtest CD first from a working computer. http://www.memtest86.com/ Upon building a box, the very first thing I run is Memtest. I let it ride for atleast 10 full passes. That's me though. Hopefully someone with build experience with this particular mobo will chime in, as I'm out of ideas after the Memtest. Link to comment

This.. makes perfect sense. I've never gotten a bad CPU, call me lucky or whatever the case. Though, makes sense.. just something that wouldn't come to mind for me having never gotten a bad one. Will the board the Phenom is coming from handle a Sempron? If so I would say see if the Sempron will work in that mobo. Make sure it's compatible first though of course, as I'd hate for you to mess up that mobo. Link to comment
queeg
Which Phenom are you using? Some are AM2+ socketed. Also, the Sempron 140 came late in the game and many boards needed a bios update to use it. Link to comment
