New to UNRAID - Setting up storage

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm moving away from synology nas and got a dell poweredge R530 with 2x 8TB, 6x 6TB and 1x PCIe 1TB M.2. Any suggestions on the best way to set unraid up using this?

1x 1TB PCIe M.2

2x 8TB

6x 6TB

i would like to use the M.2 drive for Docker and Plex database

And a raid 10 (mirror) for the 2x 8TB and 6x 6TB for Media (Movies, TV shows and music on Plex)

But don't fully understand on how to set this up within unraid and if it's the correct way.

Any input would greatly be received

Thank you

Lee

This is fine.

This is weird though.

First, Unraid is not RAID (for the main Array).

Plus with two drive, you could do a RAID1 mirror, but not a RAID10 (requires a pool of 4+ drives).

I suggest you use one of your 8TB drives as Parity and the other drives as Array member (or two 8TB parity depending on your need for redundancy).

I am not sure you understand how Unraid works compaired to classic RAID, you should read this : https://wiki.unraid.net/Manual/Overview#Parity-Protected_Array and at least the rest of the overview.
