Migration from 4.5

Featured Replies

Hello,

My old USB drive from 2009 seems to be failing now. I've not upgraded unraid since then. I know pure laziness but it has been working fine since then.

I was able to retrieve the files backed up from the usb drive but that's it. I am having trouble making the drive recognized. Probably works well once in million tries.

How can I register a new drive with my key and install either the same version of unraid or the latest/greatest with no data loss from drives?

woo. just noticed there's legacy support section. Please move this there if any mod sees this. Sorry for the trouble.

Since you are moving from such an old version, this section is probably the most applicable. I wouldn't bother trying to revive a new drive with the old files, just set up a new key with the only file to be transferred is your license.

Thanks for a quick response. I backed up files from the drive as a transfer, not through any of the web ui. Is anything from there useful in terms of recovery? I do have a copy of 'config' directory.

Also I just realized that my old server is still running the old hardware which is most likely a 32bit. I don't think any of the versions in the USB creator would work.

All you really need is the *.key file, which in 4.5 was likely in the root of the USB stick, but needs to be put in the config folder of the new USB stick.

Which motherboard and CPU? Also, how many drives, and do you have a HBA in addition to using the motherboards SATA ports?

Asus P5QL-EM board and E5300 CPU. I believe there were 8 or so. No additional cards.

Sounds like it's 64 bit capable. Can't hurt to try.

No luck. Please see the attachment.

What I did:

1. Flashed kingston datatraveler g4 8gb to 6.9.2

2. Copied my Pro key file from old usb backup to new one.

Did you use the flash creator app or did you prepare the flash manually?

I used Unraid.USB.Creator.Win32-1.6 downloaded from unraid website.

Try doing the manual method, format fat32, label UNRAID, extract files to USB, run makebootable as admin.

Same result. Any possibility of this USB drive not being supported?

Possible. USB2.0 is preferred for durability and compatibility reasons.

Tried 2 other USB 2.0 drives (one was under 1G but tried it anyway). They all end up with the same issue.

Is there any way to reproduce my old drive by any chance? I won't mind trying the latest version, but I want to have my server back up and running.

Yes I got a different error with the change.

That's why.

4GB is pretty much minimum.

Is there any way to use the old version that I had? Finding a compatible DDR2 ram in used market will not be so easy.

Ok. I send an email to support. Thanks for your help.
