April 1, 201115 yr I am new to Unraid. Just installed Unraid on a server box. Can log in via the web browser and can access all the commands as expected. The thing is I do not see my Unraid box on my Network. I created a few shares on the control panel but my network still shows nothing. I am running Win 7 pc's. What am I missing to activate the server to show up? I have assigned the network names the same. "Workgroup" is set on all. Appreciate any help. Bob Silver
April 1, 201115 yr Author Well I tried that from Windows explorer, Internet Explorer and firefox. No result. Also wont Unraid show up in my Network area like every other device I have?
April 1, 201115 yr set unRAID as the Master browser on the network, and also make sure that the array is started. You won't see anything on the network if the array is not started. Also, try using the IP address of the server, instead of "tower"
April 1, 201115 yr Assuming your array is started and you can access the the SMB shares via IP address you may want to take a look at the Name Resolution Section of the troubleshooting guide.

Also, try using the IP address of the server, instead of "tower" Do you mean Local Master as Master Browser? If so that was already set to yes. And when I type the //ip address/music I still get nothing? I also added *(RW) to the NFS area of each of the shares. No change. Could my install be bad?? Everything else from the management console works fine. I can access it either by //Tower or by ip address. So I believe my network settings are OK. Should I wipe my flash drive and start over? Cant believe it would be this hard to see an empty share on the network. Appreciate the help so far. Hopefully can get this resolved soon as I need this server up for back up of my failing RAID array on my main server. Bob

April 1, 201115 yr Author Not to be dense but how do I post an image? I have a screen shot but cannot paste it into the reposne box
April 1, 201115 yr Author Here is the screen shot of my Shares tab. I am assuming this is what you wanted. Bob
April 1, 201115 yr Could another machine be set as Local Master as well? What happens when you enter \\192.168.1.4 in Windows Explorer?
April 1, 201115 yr set the DNS to the same as your Gateway on the settings page and then try it out. If not then reboot and try it out.
April 1, 201115 yr Your shares are capitalized on the share settings. Enter \\192.168.1.4/Movies not movies.
April 1, 201115 yr Author Could another machine be set as Local Master as well? What happens when you enter \\192.168.1.4 in Windows Explorer? When I type \\192.168.1.4 or \\Tower I get the Main Page of the server.

April 1, 201115 yr Author Could another machine be set as Local Master as well? What happens when you enter \\192.168.1.4 in Windows Explorer? Also not clear on what Local Master is? Obviously the Unraid server is the only device with that ip address. My other machines just have a drive or folder that is shared. Again all at different ip addresses.
April 1, 201115 yr The Local master controls name resolution. All of your machines have a Local Master setting. Only one can be set to yes. Lets get this working with IP addresses first. Then we can worry about name resolution.
April 1, 201115 yr Author Ok I changed the DNS to my Gateway address and rebooted. No change. I am gathering from this discussion that normally the shares should just show up. So again I wonder should I wipe my flash drive and start over? Attached is the updated Settings screen after the DNS change.

Obviously the Unraid server is the only device with that ip address. My other machines just have a drive or folder that is shared. Again all at different ip addresses. Local master is only relevant if you are having name resolution issues, which you have established you are not. dga is sublty telling you that \\tower (or IP address) is not the same thing as //tower. The former is how you access a network share, the latter is how you access the web config page. Do not use internet explorer/firefox/chrome/opera/safari if you are attempting to see your files. Click start then run then type \\tower\Music in the box and press enter. That should take you to network share.
April 1, 201115 yr DId you set the IP address as 192.168.1.4? What is your router IP starting address or range?
April 1, 201115 yr Author OK I now can access a share through Win Explorer. I copied a couple files to it to be sure. So that is working. As you can see I used \\tower\Movies so the name resolution appears to be fine. So how do I get it to show up in my Network page?
