Detaching disks from unraid without losing original data

Featured Replies

I'm running an unraid with a Dell MD1200 (12drive) array and I recently added a second MD1200 (12drive) but after building the array I found that the controller/array in the new may be bad as I'm losing some of the new drives and I want to remove the drives and new array completely to replace it. I've confirmed that there is not data on the new disks (only the original MD1200) and I haven't made any changes (to keep data off them) so that I can detach and replace the 2nd array. How can I detach disks 13-24 and keep the data on the original 12 drives (first MD1200) intact?

Thanks in advance,

You can do the following:

  • Tools -> New Config and use the option to retain all current assignments
  • return to the Main tab and set drives 13-24 to be unassigned
  • start the array to commit the assignments and rebuild parity (if you have it) based on the new assignment set.   The array would be unprotected until the parity rebuild completes.

you should not have any of disks 1-12 showing as disabled before doing this.
