HP H240 dropping disks

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!

So I recently installed a HP H240 in my UNRAID Server. The first time it started dropping disks was with three HDDs attached. Since then I've rebuilt everything and now I only have one disk attached, which started being dropped a few minutes ago. Disabled and re-enabled the disk. Rebuild started but the disk was disabled again just now.

The controller is in HBA Mode and seems to work fine. The cable should be fine too. However, I noticed the H240 getting really hot. Could this cause the disks to be failing?

I have an auto disk-spindown of 15mins enabled. For this I installed the SAS Controller plugin recommended in the forum.

Looks more like a power/connection problem, but don't have any experience with HP controllers and how reliably they work with Unraid, overheating can also cause issues, those controllers are usually used in servers with very good airflow, make sure there's some direct airflow on/around it.

Thanks for the fast reply!

Yeah, I'll give it one more try with an additional fan pointing at the controller. Maybe that'll help.

Will report back as soon as I have news.

Nonetheless, I've also ordered a LSI 9207-8i to compare to. Don't really want to run into another situation where I have to rebuild everything.
