Failed Drive shows as "Not Installed" rather than "Missing" - Concerned about recovery

Featured Replies

Good Day All,

I've had a drive die overnight but after a shutdown to check cables and a restart UnRaid shows the drive as "Not Installed" as opposed to showing the disk that it thinks is missing from the system.

My concern now is, if i add a new disk in its place it will re-calculate parity as opposed to rebuild the contents of the failed disk.

Have attached logs, but disk 3 just seems to be missing entirely..

What should I do now?

That's normal, missing status is for example when an array disk is missing at array start.

I'm sorry maybe I'm missing your meaning, The status is "Not Installed" as if there has never been a disk there.  It does not say "Missing" anywhere now.

Edit: On first inspection this morning it stated "Missing" and the details of the disk it expected to see. After the reboot it states "Not Installed" and no evidence of the disk that was there.

Not installed is the normal status for a disabled disk, you just need to do a standard replacement.

Ok thank you for your help. That status change really threw me.

And as icing on my cake today my unopened hot swap drive for such eventualities appears to be dead.. My hardware write blocker isn't detecting it at all.. Sigh.

Thanks again
