Max HDD size for older Mobo

Featured Replies

Hello All.

Building NAS with unraid from older Dell XPS 435MT mobo.   Has (4) Sata ports on it, so going with (4) HDD.  Is the size of the HDD's I can attach based on the mobo, or does the unraid OS handle all of that. Spent hours trying to determine if I can put larger HDD than (4) 2TB HHD's on this.  Read somewhere that more than 2TB won't work because of boot, but then I see unraid boots from a USB.  My head hurts!

Appreciate expert advise.

Some older disk controllers only support up to 2.2TB though it might be possible to upgrade them.

Don't know about that particular mobo but I doubt it has that limitation.
