April 6, 201115 yr One of my HDD appears dead so I did some extensive testing on the drive, cable, power, etc. It turns out that the SATA port connected to the drive in question is the main problem. Is if safe to connect the drive to another SATA port? I do not want to lose any data on it. The port it used to be connected was on the M/B and the new one will be off a SATA controller card. Also another question I have is in case of M/B replacement. Do the drives need to be connected to the same SATA port? What happens if I get a completely new M/B? Thanks in advance
April 6, 201115 yr Yes it is safe. UnRAID does not care about physical SATA ports. Changing a MB is very easy. Just keep everything else the same and swap in a new MB. See this post regarding changing the Mb: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12132.0
April 6, 201115 yr Just take a screenshot of the devices page just in case, as it can help you get the right disk assigned to the right slot again. If you are only swapping one disk then it shouldn't matter.
April 6, 201115 yr I just highlight the text on the devices pages and then paste it into word or notepad and save it by the date so I have a copy to look at or printout if I need it.
