You have $2000 and you need to build an unraid box...what direction do you go with the following limitations?

Constraints:

  • Must be Rack Mountable.
  • 25" Depth limitation with power cables connected
  • Rack height not a concern, so 4U is fine
  • Must accommodate no less than 10 drives.
  • Must be Hot Swap
  • Trayless Preferred

What it will do:

  • Storage repository for my video files.
  • VM Ubuntu 20.04 LAMP server (My wordpress websites, etc.)
  • VM Windows Pro Workstation (Onyx DMX Lighting Control)
  • VM Home Assistant (Home Automation)

Leave the spinning disks out of the budget equation and dump the 2K into the core of the system (MB, CPU, Memory, NVMe SSD drive, video, cooling, etc.)

I'm not a gamer and I use my Mac for video production, so I don't need juicy graphics, but I would like to be able to utilize sound output from a VM (which I've never done before.)

I was looking at this as a starting point:  https://www.neweggbusiness.com/product/product.aspx?item=9b-11-165-240&isfeedbacktab=true
