I am getting ready to dabble into Unraid, and at the same time I am in the process of upgrading hardware, motherboard, cpu and ram.

Now my question is:

Are the registration of account on the USB stick or are it on the hardware which it runs, ie when I upgrade motherboard and cpu, do I need to buy a new license

Thank you very much

If I may, I will have 2 m.2 pcie 4.0 slots, how big should I buy, 2x256, 2x512 or 2x1024 gb ?

I know it is not how manufactures calculate size, but I'm oldfashioned :)

What are you planning on doing with Unraid? The amount of storage you will need can vary wildly, so the only response to an open ended question of how big, is buy the largest you can afford.

Thank you JonathanM

Mostly it will be a file server, ie video's, pictures and so on.

I have seen some videos on VPN and VM's, I know that for running VM you need a multicore CPU, and I am looking at AMD's midtier Threadripper or relegating my Ryzen 3900x to server and build a game/videoeditor machine from scratch with a 5950x
