Home Assistant VM losing USB Zwave device

Featured Replies

Hello, I've searched and tried a few things such as changing the VM USB controller to no avail, so hoping someone can help me out.

Basically, my Zooz USB Z-wave stick that I am passing through from Unraid keeps disappearing from my Home Assistant OS VM. It was stable for about 6 months, now it looks like the device ID is changing every day on Unraid and then HA doesn't show it in lsusb anymore. In the Unraid log I see these messages or similar every time:

Quote

Nov 14 18:41:54 Tower kernel: usb 3-2: reset full-speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd
Nov 14 18:42:43 Tower kernel: usb 3-2: USB disconnect, device number 3
Nov 14 18:42:43 Tower kernel: usb 3-2: new full-speed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd
Nov 14 18:42:43 Tower kernel: cdc_acm 3-2:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device

The only thing that seems to fix it is to copy over a backup of my qcow2 image and start up with that. Then I'm good until it happens again.

I've tried other USB ports, both on the m/b and two add-in cards, (I was unable to pass through the entire controller), but I keep having the same problem.

Any suggestions on fixing this?

It looks like this may be caused by a feature added to ZWaveJS2MQTT that does a soft reset of the USB device periodically, and that a method to disable it is coming. Figures, I've been searching for a week and this issue finally popped up for me right after creating this post.
