HDGuy Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 (edited) I have a whole bunch of topics to address with my Lenovo PX4-400D NAS but I'll do it one topic at a time. Is there a way to stop UNRAID from seeing the it's 1GB internal flash drive? I want to buy the Basic package but it's taking up one of my 6 valuable device slots. It's showing up as: Name: Dev 1 Identification: _USB_DISK_2.0_65003C1BAA4A2A08-0:0 (sdb) It's an unassigned device but it's getting just as many reads (millions) as the drives assigned to my array. I suppose I can eventually figure a way to boot UNRAID from it, but it's really too small to do anything with. Currently I'm booting off a 64GB USB 3.0 flashdrive. Frank1940 Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 @HDGuy, or you should be able to just remove it physically. (Flash Drives are notorious for having high failure rates compared to most electronic devices...) Quote

It's embedded memory. https://azxiana.io/2020/10/27/building-a-home-nas-for-163-usd/ I'm trying to boot from it following this guide but when I get to the point when I'm supposed to restore the boot block it won't let me do it (says files aren't there, they are). I think it has something to do with running a linux program off a Fat32 drive. Quote

(Still find it hard to believe that Flash memory would be soldered to the MB. I have heard of a one other manufacturer who had a flash memory inside their product but it was a standard USB flash drive connected via a header on the circuit board. The reason I know about it is that there were a lot of questions about replacing it when it failed.) Edited November 16, 2021 by Frank1940 Quote

The LenovoEMC PX4-400D was originally a NAS running a modified BIOS, so there is no way to turn off the internal flash memory (at least none that I could find). I already had the motherboard out to upgrade the ram to 8GB and install a PCIE NVME controller (yes, it has a PCI-E slot), and while it might have a header somewhere for the internal flash somewhere on the motherboard, I wouldn't know where it was. The motherboard doesn't seem to be one that was commercially sold. If I could get it to boot Unraid off the internal flash it would solve a lot of problems for me. I have no idea how Azxiana did it without encountering the same error. I tried contacting her a few times but she hasn't responded. Edited November 16, 2021 by HDGuy Quote
trurl Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 If it isn't a "normal" flash device probably can't be used to license Unraid anyway. Quote
