Unraid 4.7: My 3rd disk doesn't fill up

Featured Replies

Hello

Here is my setup:

I have 3 user shares

MOVIES (High water, split level = 2)

TV SHOWS (High water, split level =1)

PHOTOS (high water, Split level =1)

Structure is as follow:

MOVIES

--BluRay

--DivX

--DVD

--Kids

TV SHOWS

--TV folders

-----Seasons

PHOTOS

--Years folder

I've added a 3rd disk (same size than the 2 others - 1.5Tb) but this 3rd disk doesn't fill up...!!!

Disk 1 is now 57% and disk 2 is 37%

But disk 3 is still empty...

I've just put 8Gb in TV SHOWS\Dr House\Season1, but it doesn't go in Disk 3...Now, disk2 is 38%

Like I said, they are all 1.5 Tb disk (2 x seagate and the 3rd is a WD EADS)

Since my disks are all the same size, I though that with high water, they should be used evenly

Any idea? What should I look for? Should I change the split level?

Thanks

As I understand it, with the high-water setting, the third disk will start to be used when the second has passed the 50% mark, unless you set the thresholds any differently.

That is correct. With High-Water set, it would fill each of your drives to 50% before moving on. Once all drives have less then 50% free space, it will calculate a new High-Water setting and start filling disks accordingly.

If you read the Wiki on User Shares, it describes how the calculations are made...

OK, so I guess that Disk 3 will start to fill up when Disk 2 will be at 50%

I'll keep you posted...

Thank you guys

What would you recommend: high water or fill-up?

I guess I have to wait for Disk 2 to be at 50% to see Disk 3 to start to fill up, right?

Do you really need disk3 to start filling? What does it matter as long as it's used when you need the space?

I always use High Water... that way all the data is spread across disks... eventually. :)

No I don't need Disk 3 to fill-up...I just wanted to make sure that everything works fine, and I thought that I had an issue with that 3rd drive since it's still empty. But looks like it will start to fill up when disk 2 will be at 50%.....So I will see how Disk 3 fills up when I create a NEW tv serie.....

You do understand that disk2 has to be >50% full and you have to create a new TV series before disk3 will be used?

Any movie should go to disk3 once disk2 >50% full.

Yes, I think it's clear...

Nothing will happen on Disk 3 as long as Disk 2 hasn't reached 50%

Then, if I add a new tv serie, it will go on disk 3

But if I had new episodes in an already existing tv serie, they will go in Disk1 and Disk2

Am I correct?
