S117 Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 Hello, I currently have an 8 bay desktop NAS. I want to transition to a rack based solution, however I am insanely restricted on depth - my rack will only take a 305mm deep enclosure. The only ones I can find are 1u, and they will only take 2 disks. However, QNAP sell an expansion unit called TL-R400S, it takes 4 disks, and comes with a QXP PCIe card for connecting the enclosure using a SFF-8088 (or SFF-8644). Can I just use a different PCIe card and connect it to an app server running Unraid? I don't know much about HBA's at all, and I am not sure if the QNAP device will only play well with QNAP software (which I want to move away from). Thanks, Lux Quote
Vr2Io Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 (edited) TL-R400S was external SATA enclosure solutions, QXP PCIe card just a 4 port SATA controller card. BTW, it should work will Unraid/Windows, even work with other HBA in SATA mode, rather pricing but plug and play. TL-DxxxS seems cheaper a lot, just different form factor.
