Boot in GUI mode starts off via iGPU then switches to dGPU once boot is complete

Featured Replies

Hi all - my Server is in the living room so I'd like to boot in GUI mode to my TV so that I can then use a Win 10 VM as an HTPC. The typical boot sequence of the BIOS and unRaid is all output via the iGPU over HDMI, but then once that completes the screen goes completely black. I have been trouble shooting this via other forum posts with similar issues (although they all seem to include a blinking cursor in the top right) without luck.

Then while messing about by pure dumb luck I accidentally plugged the HDMI cable into my dGPU rather than the Mobo iGPU and low and behold there was the the unRaid GUI! If anyone knows why the boot sequence would be visible via iGPU and then the actual GUI only visible with dGPU, and how to fix this, I would be most appreciative.

A few things that may or may not be worth noting:

- BIOS settings have the Primary GPU set as the iGPU

- The dGPU is not passed through to a VM and is used only with one container: Tdarr

- I am using QuickSync on the iGPU for Plex hardware transcoding. Other than that everything in terms of UnRaid config is stock in this area.

- I have the 'Intel GPU TOP' plugin installed for managing the Quicksync/iGPU side of things, instead of a modified GO file (Using this also helped resolve a recent issue where the addition of my Nvidia dGPU was disabling QuickSync transcoding on my iGPU).
