April 10, 201115 yr I have had the system working fine and decided to move everything to a new bigger case. All I did was move everything over as is. I downed the system and pulled the memory stick I bought from Lime (4.2.1) and set it aside. Moved everything over and put back just like it was before (no new additions or changes), but now it won't boot off the stick. I just get Error Loading Operating System. The BIOS recognizes the stick and the stick flashes 1 time right before it gives the message. The BIOS is set to boot off the Lexar stick. I even had the BIOS load defaults but still get it. Any suggestions? Server is down and Monday morning everyone needs access.
April 10, 201115 yr Post the specs for the new hardware. It may be too new for 4.2.1. Have you disabled all other disks as boot devices? What are the BIOS options for the flash drive? E.g., FFD, HDD, etc..
April 10, 201115 yr Author There was absolutely no hardware change, just the case. I moved everything as it was from old case to new because I found a case that could handle 4 of the 5in3 cages instead of the 3 the MD1500 handled. I had filled up the 15 drives slots and had to have another cage just sitting on top with cables hanging out when I went with the 16 and 17 drive. But I somehow managed to correct the issue by continuing to fiddle with it. No idea what I could have done in the beginning as I put everything in new case just as it was in old. Same slots, same order, same power supply, same cage fans and speed control, all of it. The only difference in cases besides the obvious physical size is that the new case does not have a power led, just a turned on led and the new case fans have the standard 4 wire power connectors that just plug into each other like Christmas lights as compared to the small 3 wire direct to the MB. There are also more fans, but they all plug into each other then into a power connector. The case is the Antec 1200. I did have to modify the mechanical part of the case because the normal drive slots had metal tabs to support the individual drives and I had to bend them out of the way for the 5in3 cages to slide it. All seems to be working as of now. Next step is to do the UnRAID upgrade to get support for more than 15 drives.
