November 25, 20214 yr I've had my server shut down for over 6 months and finally fired it up again. I couldn't remember my username and password so I followed the manual and I'm still unable to log in. I tried to follow the second part of the password reset, however, I have no shadow file on the USB. This is what is displayed when I try to log in with the root and the blank (default) password.
November 26, 20214 yr Community Expert Shut the server down by a one-second push of the Power Button. (Wait at least three minutes to allow an ordinary clean shutdown.) Now pull the flash drive out. Take to a PC and backup all of the contents the drive. Than run chkdsk on it. Report on results. (If the server should happen not to shutdown normally with that one second push, push and hold the Power Button until it forces an unclean shutdown. Then remove the flash drive and proceed.) November 27, 20214 yr Community Expert Connect up a monitor and keyboard to your server. See if you can log into the server on the console. If you can, type the following on the Command line: diagnostics The Diagnostics file will be written to the /logs directory folder of the boot drive. Upload that file in a new post.
November 27, 20214 yr Author I fired it up after the chkdsk and was able to boot into the server. Not sure what went wrong but I'm up and running.
