Gen4 M2 SSD on Unraid as Cache - Speed issues

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I've purchased a 2TB M.2 SN850 WD BLACK SSD with Gen4 PCIe, and it should get around 7gb/s of transfer speeds... But in reality, I can only use around 800-1200mb/s on unraid... When I'm transfering files around, copying them, etc... Tried with Midnight Knight, Krusader, and others, and can't get past this...

This happens when I copy files from the ssd to another folder inside it as well... I have other high speed ssds and have never seen this before... I've done some research and found out there's something about the file system that's set on the drive... But not sure if there's any way around it... Or if I would benefit the same from having only a regular Gen3 SSD... Any ideas?...

I currently run a VM on it as well, but even with the VM turned off the same would happen...

Does anybody also know if I partition the disk and install the VM directly on it, if I should get more speed inside the VM perhaps?... Any ideas? :(

I'm using a X570 Aorus Ultra with a Ryzen 5900x. The SSD is on the main/first slot as well. Was getting the correct speeds while running windows before starting with Unraid though...

Speed when duplicating a file:

There's only a Windows VM running off the SSD, with almost no disk usage, around 300kbps.

Here follows a DiskSpeed docker test: https://imgur.com/a/gCp64rn The fastest, but most unstable one is the Gen4 SSD. It is in a cache pool alone. The other SSD is in the regular disk pool. Here are the way the drives are organized. Disk1 is the Gen3 M2 SSD and Cache 1 is the Gen4 SSD: https://imgur.com/a/beQY1Ww
