i can read but can not write

Featured Replies

I having a lot of troubles with being able to write.

I have windows vista

i believe it is on vista's end cause every now and again it will let me put a file on it then it denies permission on the next file.

Or it will let me make a folder or transfer a folder but nothing other than folders.

this is my first unraid server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

What version of UnRaid are you using?  Sounds like it could be a permissions issue...

  • Author

i just bought unraid from limetech about two weeks ago

so i assume it is 4.5

  • Author

it is the pro and the latest version

  • Author

your right i do have 4.7

It is change my permissions back to read only after a few files transfer.

I can go in and delete the actual mp3, but not the file it was in.

I duno really frustrated right now.  Really need some ideals to go from here

Show us screenshots of your 4.7 tabs, i.e., one for Main, one for Shares, and one for Settings. Can you Telnet or use Putty to connect to the server?

  • Author

yes i can telnet

never tried putty

and it doesn't matter what i put shares on or settings

i have Even went in and changed the config file and that is the most success i have had.

after like 3 or 4 files it stops and tells me i don't have permission again.

You can read, but you can't write? That sounds like a permissions in your shares. I have all my shares setup as read, but not write so others don't mess things up.

Are you machines on the same workgroup?

Are you using the same login on your machine that you use as a user on the unRAID machine for your shares?

  • Author

thye are in the same work group and no i am not using the same user as what is i am using in unraid

  • Author

i went back and created a new user as administrator to get the same name.

Still no luck.  Yes it is a permission problem and i dont know how to fix it

Someone HElP please

What does your "/etc/samba/smb.conf" report?

and the file and folder permissions from unMenu browser?

and the Vista folder (Advanced Sharing) permissions?

Please read the stickies at the top of the General Support forum on how to report a problem, and post required files.  Also, if users request you post something extra, please post that as well.  Others may see clues in screenshots and log files that you didn't notice or didn't think important.  It is always best just to post what is requested (within reason) rather than explain away why they don't need to see it, or interpret what you see.  After all, if you had noticed the problem, you wouldn't be asking for help.  :o

None of this may help you with this problem, but it is your best chance of getting good answers here.  One suggestion I would have is to get off of Vista.  Win7 is sooooo much better. :)

Try creating a user with the same name and password as the Vista user. Otherwise, try turning off the unRAID security and see if it works.

Win7 is sooooo much better. :)

That should be read SO, SO, SO, SO MUCH BETTER. Vista was pretty crappy when it was the new Windows OS but now after comparing to W7 I can really say Vista is a completely useless turd of a OS. Well, in person I'd say much worse than that.
