Unraid 6.9.X install paired with Synology NAS

Featured Replies

Hello,

I do not have a dedicated server, instead I am using an extra laptop. Yes, I know, I plan to get an actual server in the weeks to come. My question is, how can I get Unraid to recognize my Synology NAS drives for the mean time?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How are formatted your Synology drives ?

Is it using SHR or another RAID mode ?

I'm using RAID 1.

It has to be a Linux file system I am assuming

Unraid IS NOT RAID.

Are you thinking of booting the Unraid OS on your laptop?

How did you plan to attach these drives to your laptop?

If they can't be accessed as separate drives Unraid won't be able to work with them.

I'm well aware Unraid is not RAID. As my question states, I have a Synology NAS with 2 3.5's. Can they be accessed by Unraid that is running off a USB attached to a separate latptop?

Why not just connect the Synology through the network with the Unassigned Devices Plugin ?

It is connected to the network but the drives do not appear on list. It has to be because they’re different file systems

If you are using Unassigned Devices plugin to mount remote shares on another NAS, it doesn't matter at all what filesystem they are since accessing the filesystem is left up to the other NAS.

Just like you can access Unraid shares from a Windows computer even though Unraid filesystems aren't supported by Windows.
