Changing interface order with multiple interfaces

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I've a Gen8 Microserver with 2 built in Broadcom NICs. broadcom1 (the first port) is currently eth0, broadcom2 is currently eth1.

I've added a Mellanox Connect X 3. This is currently eth2.

The current assignment is:

broadcom1 eth0

broadcom2 eth1

mellanox eth2

While this works I would like to set the Mellanox as eth0.

When I try to re-arrange the eth assignments on the settings page like this:

mellanox eth0

broadcom1 eth1

broadcom2 eth2

However, the settings don't change with the reconfiguration. For example:

IP for eth2 (the Mellanox) is set to  1.18

The Mellanox interface is set to eth0.

The Mellanox card adopts the IP of eth0
It does not retain the IP of eth2, 1.18. The setting does not 'move' with the adaptor change.

This caused me a few probs, the biggest one chopping me out of the UI.

I think I'm asking:

Should the config be re-assigned automatically?

OR

Do I need to reconfigure the interface IP, description, frame size prior to rearranging the interface eth assignments?

As an intellectual aside, are these web UI config settings expected to be reflected in the ifconfig command?

I'm a bit nervous as last time I rearranged the interface assignments as mentioned I couldn't get in to the UI.

All advice most welcome. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, I'm just not sure what!

Thank you
