I opened the dashboard of my server today to find a hard drive had once again been disabled. I've attached the smart report, could someone have a look please and see what the problem could be before I do anything. I do have a hot spare in the box if needed.

Also, when spun up my drives are running at 16 degrees C which seems too cold to me, should I try unplugging the case fan over winter till my house warms back up, thoughts?

Drive has disconnected. Controller or connection problem.

Check connections, SATA and power, both ends, including splitters.

Then post new diagnostics

Disk looks OK except for the CRC errors which it logs when the connection is bad. If you see a warning for that on the Dashboard page you can click on it to acknowledge and it will warn again if it increases.

could it be bad cables?

yes

Hello. I'm always getting CRC errors and sometimes they get so high I have to return the drives to Seagate. I'll invest in some better cables. How do I re-enable the disk?

Thanks for your help.

Your subject line implies you had this problem before. How did you take care of it before?

Almost certainly nothing wrong with those disks.

The very safest approach is to rebuild to another disk. That way you keep the original disk exactly as it is in case there are other problems during rebuild.

Rebuilding to the same disk is often done though since it doesn't require another disk. Ideally you will have eliminated the hardware problems before attempting that.

Thank Trurl for your help. I have rebuilt to another disk and ordered some new sata leads.
