April 13, 201115 yr I have a sata controller card, a ST Lab A-230 2-Port SATA + IDE PCI Controller Card that runs the via 6421a chipset. I installed it into my motherboard and plugged in a new sata drive and cable to it, but the drive was not detected by unraid. I have tried multiple PCI slots, and different cables and drives that are known to work with unraid, but no success. How can I tell if unraid is picking up the sata controller card or not?

You would look in the BIOS first on the motherboard, since if it does not see the disk, unRAID cannot. Then, you would look in the system log to see if the disk controller is recognized.
April 13, 201115 yr Author Ok I will hook up a monitor and keyboard to the box and check the bios and report back, thank you.
April 13, 201115 yr Author In the meantime, I tried my third PCI slot (actually the middle slot of 3, I had tried the first and third slots previously), and voila, unraid can now find the disc under devices! Very strange, not sure why this would be, my only guess is the PCI card is seated better or something....
