Is any advantage or disadvantage in using 4k aligned partitions in unraid with non advanced format drives?

 

does 5.0b6 uses 5k aligned as default to any drive?

    It makes no difference whether non-AF drive are 4k-aligned or not. 5.0b6a defaults to 4k-aligned and there is no reason to change it. All new drives can formatted as 4k-aligned with optimal performance. The only exception is WD EARS drives with a jumper. Don't add jumpers to WD EARS drives.

     

    The alignment setting only effects drives being added to the array. It does not effect existing array drives.
