DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the agent is to work around a Docker API limitation. When using the Docker API to manage a Docker environment, the user interactions with specific resources (containers, networks, volumes and images) are limited to these available on the node targeted by the Docker API request.

How to connect to Portainer?

1. Once Portainer Agent is installed and running, go to Portainer CE and log-in with your credentials.

2. Click on Home, then go to the Settings section, and click on Environments (Endpoints in old Portainer versions).

3. Click on Add environment...

3.1. Check that the following options are selected by default, otherwise, select them: Environment type (Agent), Information (Linux).

4. Fill-in all three text fields from Environment details section, as: Name (cluster_name), Environment URL (host_ip:9001), Public IP (host_ip:9001).

5. Click on Add environment button. You will be redirected to the previous page...

6. If you see two environments, the one from the local host (/var/run/docker.sock) and the other from the Agent (host_ip:9001), it got installed and connected successfully with Portainer CE.

7. Done.

NOTES
• To connect the Agent to Portainer, you will need to add the Agent to the Endpoints of Portainer first.

If you are going to report a bug or request something to be added/modified, please, take into consideration that I will only be able to apply changes for the work I own only. For example, if I create a docker template for an already existing docker image (not created by me), I won't be able to do more for that image than forward your report or request to the owner of the project.

If you like my work, please consider making a little donation.
