PLEASE HELP!!!!! I THINK I JUST LOST 4TB OF DATA

Featured Replies

PLEASE help me!!! long story short i reinstalled unraid and i think i selected the wrong parity drive when recreating it. i think i selected a data drive. no formatting was done and i selected that the parity was already valid. i selected a new config and tried swapping it back to the proper drive but the other data drive is showing nothing and requesting to be formatted. is there anyway to get my data back?

Do you know what the correct assignments should be?

i know it is one of the two drives but i have swapped them around as parity (with it selected its already valid) and both show as needing to format

The wiki I posted is no help now since you have created more than one unmountable disk.

when i run the command lsblk i can still see its encrypted correctly like the rest of my drives

so i would guess the SDK1 would be my parity for its not encrypted

sounds like perhaps if i make the other drive mountable again then perhaps i might be able to recover it??

I don't use encryption so don't have any experience with repair in that situation. You can try I guess. No need to repair it in the array since parity will have to be rebuilt anyway.

ok so i will try to figure out the mount commands for encrypted drives and see what i can find but im feeling like the data is there safe just need to get it to see it. i have hope that i can figure this out and not lose any data

question? i got it to mount finally but data is gone. with the parity marked as intact does it still hold the parity correctly? how would i use that parity to re-create the data that was lost on the one drive?

No details about how you succeeded in getting the disk to mount so can't comment on that. I know it would have to be slightly more complicated than with an unencrypted disk.

If you start the array with the disk unassigned and the emulated disk is unmountable then that would be the result. Whether that could be repaired or not is unclear.

Not entirely clear if parity is indeed parity

in the end i ran a xfs repair which fixed the file system allowing it to be mounted. once mounted its empty but mounted. the parity drive is indeed the parity and i never rebuilt or ran parity check

if i ran the check with write to parity box unchecked would that write the correct data to the empty drive?

when i started the array this time i got this

format is NEVER part of rebuild. Rebuilding a formatted disk can only result in a formatted disk.
