FormerSynoUser
Hi. I'm looking to move on from Synology since they now require their drives. I'd like a tower with 12-16 bays, hot swappable preferably. Any suggestions for a case? Also, as I'm unfamiliar with what's out there hardware wise for something like this, if anybody has any suggestions for motherboards to go with it, it would be greatly appreciated. I was very interested in the Ryzen DS2422+ but it's not worth the vendor lock. Thanks! Quote Link to comment

Most not quite as large as you would like: https://graphicscardhub.com/case-with-lots-of-hdd/ I have the Silverstone CS380 with 8 hot-swap 3.5" bays. If you don't need the two 5.25" bays (I use them for an optical drive for MakeMKV and a 4 x 2.5" SSD hot-swap caddy), you can get another 3 x 3.5" caddy to occupy that space for 11 3.5" drives in the case. At the bottom of the linked article there are links to larger cases such as the Fractal Define 7 XL that can hold up to 18 HDDs. Edited December 15, 2021 by Hoopster Quote Link to comment
peterg23
Linus Sebastian did the following video on a Fractal Define 7 XL Unraid build back in March 2020. (They eventually decided to use Unraid instead of Proxmox for this build). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAy9N1vX76o Edited December 16, 2021 by peterg23 Quote Link to comment
FormerSynoUser
Thanks so much guys. It's been so long since I even had to buy a controller card (MFM/RLL/IDE) days that I wasn't sure who would have the right stuff. I really appreciate the advice! Quote Link to comment
