April 16, 201115 yr i think i know the answer to this but just incase here it goes...i was trying to preclear one of my hdd drives it was an EADS was starting on sector 63 and no jumper on it so i precleared it to get it corrected. brought the array back online and wanted me to format that disk. so i did and i think i lost a bunch of stuff. i never saw a rebuild process going on...am i screwed?
April 16, 201115 yr Not sure why you were fixing an EADS drive that was not broken? They are not advanced format drives which is why you will constantly read about fixing EARS with an "R" and not about fixing EADS drives. How about you describe in step by step as much as you remember because it sure sounds like you either pressed the Restore button (not likely since I would think you are using unRAID 4.7) or used the initconfig command. April 16, 201115 yr Author i did it because joe L said "If the drive still has the jumper, and it says the partition starts on sector 64, it will NOT perform best. If the drive has NO jumper and it says the partition starts on sector 63, it will NOT perform best. Anything else is OK." and the EADS drive was starting on 63 and i realize now i probably misunderstood him... im using 5.0beta6a...i used the preclear script for that one specific drive typed "Yes" i was sure i wanted to do it. it went through and formated it. i brought array back online and it said under the device description of that drive that it was factory formated or something along those things. thats about all i remember? i know i never saw rebuild data or disk or anything? ive slept on the fact that ive lost 2 terabytes of stuff /: and of course no one to blame but myself
April 16, 201115 yr need more info... was this a drive that was previously part of the array ? how did you remove this drive from the array ? was the array degraded when you were preclearing the drive ?
April 16, 201115 yr Did you use the reset array config (I don't know the exact wording but 5.0 has a reset somewhere on the web interface) to remove the drive from the array? I understand how you could have got confused but you had posted about EARS drives and jumpers. The EARS are the WD AF drives that those statements apply to. Peter
April 16, 201115 yr Author this drive is now the least of my problems i am nothing but destruction these days... yes the drive was part of the array.. i stopped the array and unassigned the disk..what do you mean was the array degraded when i precleared the drive?? i tried the reset and i even got it to try the rebuild array and neither of them work so i accept the fact that i lost it all lol im just trying to save the rest. i posted another topic..for a bigger problem i am having :'(
