Cache

Featured Replies

I'm preparing my hardware to install Unraid. I will be using this for a home media server, to store files from my PC that will be accessible by any PC on the network and to back up my computers to. My question is in light of my intended uses will having a cache give me any real benefit? The PC I intend to use has a 128 Gb SSD. I was considering adding two more SSD's for a cache but I am thinking I'll not really see any benefit from it.

Thanks

Are you going to be running Docker containers?  If so, a cache drive will be of great benefit as hosting docker containers/appdata on cache will keep array drives from spinning up just because of docker activity.

The cache drive is not just for caching writes to the array.

You can also use SSDs as unassigned devices for file download locations and hosting VMs.
