Volumio Execution Error on starting VM

Featured Replies

Hi all,

New to Unraid, I am still trying to understand how everything works.

I followed Spaceinvader One's Volumio installation guide from the video here.

When I start the VM, I am getting an execution error.

Unfortunately I cannot understand what the problem is and how to fix it.

My settings for the VM are as follows:

My intention is to have Volumio export sound through the motherboard's HDMI port which is connected to an amplifier, to play music.

The server's details are in my signature below if needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are passing through the audio portion of the gpu and not the video, most probably they are in the same iommu group (should be group 1), because (most probably) you didn't have acs override enabled.

Even if you passthrough only the audio portion and even if it's the only device in its iommu group, most probably you will receive errors in syslog, because of inability to reset the device (gpu).

You need to passthrough both audio and video of the gpu, better to attach it to vfio, and better to have another primary gpu for unraid.

You'd want to enable also acs override (set to 'both'), if audio and video are in the same iommu group together with other devices.

Thank you @ghost82, but I am not very familiar with the terminology and I'd love to understand a bit more please.

How do I "attach it to the vfio"? Where is the settings area that offers this option?

I cannot find anything relevant in the Settings section.

Also, where do I find the iommu groups? And where would I go to enable acs override?

Ok, I found the section for attaching to the vfio (I think) under Tools > System Devices

I ticked on the checkbox in front of the GPU and the rest of the IOMMU group 1 were automatically selected.

I then clicked on the button BIND SELECTED TO VFIO AT BOOT and I rebooted.

All working now. Thank you for your help!

Hi @ghost82 and @morethanenough I'm getting a similar error but not exactly sure I understand this solution or if it will work for my case.

I’m running and intel i5-11400 with iGPU. No other GPU. Attached is what my system devices looks like.

I have tried all the options for ACS override before but it made no difference in the system devices.

According to my screenshot, what do I need to do?

Thanks

Can you show us a screenshot of the error you are receiving and please attach your system diagnostics.

Hi, try to enable acs override (try with 'both' option), reboot unraid, and see if the actual iommu group 9 splits.

Unfortunately I don't think it could be splitted, but I can be wrong..

I tried it again using the 'both' option as well as 'vfio allow unsafe interrupts' set to 'Yes'  but nothing changed.  I see that FLR icon is next to the audio device.  What does that do and can it help?  If not, what other options do I have with my setup, in order to be able to use volumio (even if I use snapcast server to send audio out to other Raspberry Pi devices)?

If nothing changed you can't passthrugh the igpu audio.

I don't know of other options you are asking for with your actual hardware.

An inexpensive audio usb dongle could do the job.

That sounds like a plan.  I'll try that.

Thanks for the help. Much appreciated.
