Smart Error and recycling a SSD

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a MX300 525GB running for over 4 Years now (24/7). Unraid SMART shows an Error with "Reallocate NAND block count" with Raw Value "1" but also "1926" "Unused reserve NAND block".

For the moment its running fine - usage is about 60%. There is no array or Parity drive - this drive runs with XFS for its own without cache or Parity.

I have backed up all Data and will replace the Drive.

Now I'd like to use the old one as a share drive with no special needs until it dies.

Is it correct, that the drive has already 1926 Blocks, that can be used to reallocate? And if the drive is formated for example 80% of its maximum storage, the 20% over provisioning will be used to "Unused reserve NAND block"?

...or did I get something wrong?

And if I am right how could I format only 80% of the Drive space in Unraid/XFS?

I have no idea if 1926 Blocks is a small or a big number for that, maybe someone has also a MX300 and could tell something about this. The Drive has much more read than write operations.

Thanks and regards,

Jester

Edit: Correct the Model to MX300.
