Change from IDE mode to AHCI on existing setup?

As the title really. I have a 7 disk unread setup. And after rebuilding the PC it is set to IDE mode. I have read that AHCI is preferred, should I change it now? Or leave it? and why?

    change it, may have to assign some drives back to the correct slots so take a screen print of the devices page before making the change.

    I changed it on my rig after running it for a month. I didn't have to change any drive assignments, etc. But, what I would do is definitely take a screenshot of the device page before changing any settings to avoid any possible flubs.
