Parity disk in error state for the 3rd time

Featured Replies

I've logged in to see another parity disk in error state message. I think this is the 3rd time now, the disk only shows 1 error so I'm trying to understand where the issue is. I'm not really sure what I'm looking for so was hoping someone would offer some advice. I've attached the diagnostics, in the past I removed the disk and readded it which worked for a while until the next failure.

It's logged as a disk problem, you can try swapping cables with another one to rule that out, also you not recommend an SMR disk for parity since it will slow down all array writes.

Thanks for the reply, for some reason I didn't get a notification about it. It has just happened again so I'll try swapping the cable as you suggest. Is SMR the type of disk? i.e. it's a WD red but I should use a normal rather than "NAS" disk?

SMR stands for shingled magnetic recording, and WD stupidly used SMR for some RED models, many users were unhappy and protested about that, I believe they replaced those disks for free for anyone asking, now they have the RED plus line, which are CMR.

Ah, interesting! I will look into getting it swapped!
