April 23, 201115 yr Would it be feasible for Tom to open source the web interface? The web interface has been a point of contention for many of us. Essentially Tom has proved over the years that unRAID is a solid platform, but a major weakness is that he's the only person working on it. There is a massive community here that is dedicated to this product. Most of us here would be happy to help develop for this project if it were open sourced. Obviously Tom wouldn't open source the driver, but the web interface would be far easier to manage. This would free Tom up to develop the core platform, and give some talented users a chance to show off the latest and greatest in the interface. The web interface is a massive part of this product, and new users tend to base their opinions on this alone. Thoughts?
April 23, 201115 yr Actually the driver is open sourced as it's derived from prior kernel code. The web interface and user share filesystem are closed source. If they were to be made available as open source, would anyone purchase unRAID?
April 23, 201115 yr Author I see! That makes it more difficult. If there was a decent plugin architecture, then Tom could choose to include a publicly designed web interface... Eg unMenu (not that I support the use of this for new users). Could be an option on a config file? Potentially Tom could ask the community for help, I'd still be happy to contribute. I'm starting to get sick of the slow development..
April 23, 201115 yr V 5 has a plugin environment. Check it out on a TEST environment. it makes it really easy to write simple plugin tools. EDIT: Many of us have had lengthy discussions of plugins in the 5.0 forums.
April 23, 201115 yr Author I'll read the wiki about this. I'm running 5 Beta on my home server at the moment.
May 24, 201115 yr If you are familiar with CSS, you can write your own interface for V5 beta. A few users have already done so, and come up with stunning results.
