I built my first unRAID server last month (03/03/2011). 4.7 Pro License. Have been running the Asus M4A78LT-M LE MB ever since. Started small, has grown to 8 drives by now-13.5TB- plus parity. After a few teething problems, mostly related to settings, it has worked well. Motherboard I'm using is the Asus M4A78LT-M LE. Only issue with the motherboard was the onboard Atheros NIC. I installed an Intel Pro 1000 Gigabit PCI NIC. That took care of the problem.

 

My current setup:

 

Asus M4A78LT-M LE

AMD Athlon II X260

4GB DDR3 Kingston 1333 RAM

Lexar Firefly 4GB

Seasonic 620 Watt PSU

Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8

3 Hitachi 2TB 7K2000 (one of these is parity)

3 Seagate 2TB LP Green

1 WD 2TB EADS

1 Seagate 1TB 7200.11

1 Seagate 500GB

 

The attached syslog is from 03/11 (8 days running). In my limited opinion, if a PCI NIC card is added to bypass the onboard Atheros, this board is compatible with unRAID. It is an economical board with 6 onboard Sata ports. Can provide today's syslog (04/25), if needed for further Level 1 or level 2 verification. I am running four of my drives through the onboard ports. Continues to run solid.

The motherboard works well with unRAID. The system booted up perfectly, and operated well with the onboard Atheros network card, but much better (faster transfer speeds) with the Intel NIC for my needs (Full gigabit, high transfer speeds, etc.). The onboard Atheros NIC seems to interfere with transfer speeds, but does that make the motherboard itself not compatible with unRAID? As prostuff1 recently pointed out in another topic reply, it is not that Atheros does not work with unRAID, It is that the driver typically does not work very well. In my case transfer speeds worked at 100mbit, and I have a gigabit setup. Therefore I upgraded the NIC with an Intel Pro 1000 gigabit.

 

All over this forum the Intel PCI NIC being used in this setup is widely recommended for an unRAID setup, and I wanted full gigabit and high speed transfers for my setup.  The motherboard continues to operate flawlessly after more than 30 days of continued use with 8 disks plus in unRAID.
