USB GSM/WCDMA modem as backup connection

Hi!

 

I am trying to install an usb GSM modem as a backup for my main connection, but i can not fire it out how to have it shown in my network list.

I have installed the USB manager and I can see the device listed: ZTE_Incorporated_ZTE_WCDMA, but i van not get it to work. Can someone help me please? 🥺

I suspect that there is no driver for the modem.

 

Do you know what you need.

 

Also if you where to load a driver and config your server would be open to a external connection.

 

Are you planning to connect to a firewall/RAS VM?

 

I did create a plugin to load serial options as per the below thread. Plugin is in CA.

I am planning to use it as a backup connection for the entire unraid system. I do not use VM, just docker on unraid.

I would recommend not doing that from the unraid server as it will expose the whole system with no protection.

 

How do you protect the server from the internet? Best option would be for the GSM connection to be via your router/firewall.

The router mess up the second connection and I can not get the public IP to update automatically on GSM. 

That why I am trying to have it done directly thru unraid.

I don't think that someone will try to hack me on 5 minutes on mobile 😂
