How old is your oldest drive?

Featured Replies

I've rebuilt my homelab and moved to unraid I had some old drives that I used before I could move my newer drives off the old hardware to the newly created unraid system.

Just looking at some of my drives, and their date of manufacture is 2012 (Seagate Constellation) and 2013 (HGST Ultrastar)

Safe to say these will be retired as soon as I can move data off them.

I bought the 120GB Kingston HyperX 3K SSD back in Oct 2012.  It was the boot drive for a few Windows machines, sat in a drawer several times, and now is the second cache/pool drive in my server.  Used as my transcoding share for Plex/Unmanic/Handbrake.  I figure it better to wear this one out vs the new NVMe drive.

Powered On time is 44888 hours (just over 5 years) with over 12TB of writes so far.  Still reports 98 SSD_Life_Left and has yet to retire any blocks.

I started thinking it might be time to replace this drive when the SMART test history "LifeTime (hours)" rolled over

Nah. Last I looked several of my drives still in service have rolled over.

Here's a couple samples of stats.

A different drive, must have an extra digit in the hours meter.

Here is my oldest one, 2 other drives around the same time. WD RED 3TB for all 3, I have another one about a year newer and then a series of drives after that.
