Office NAS with IPMI Support

Featured Replies

I need to build a new office NAS for a business. In the past I have always bought new/used 2U SuperMicro systems (I have been building and working with servers for 15 years) however this time I need something quieter that can live in an office setting so I am planning on a Desktop Tower ATX type setup with 2x SATA SSD's for cache and 2x SATA HDDs for array.

Any recommendations for a specific Mobo and CPU combo for this? IPMI and remote KVM support would be awesome so I can VPN into the office network and remote reboot the host if needed, see whats on the screen pre-boot, watch it POST, etc.

Looks like there are options from SuperMicro, AsRock Rack, etc. I'm looking for something known to work out of the box without needed firmware upgrades as this is a short notice job that I'd like to buy and build ASAP.

Anyone have experience recently building UNRAID boxes with IPMI support and have a good Mobo/CPU combo in mind? It does not need to be a server CPU at all, an i5 would be fine here. The budget is not important, just the least I need to spend to get the features I need. Thanks.
