April 27, 201115 yr I'm not sure why my settings stopped working. I stopped getting emails and when I do a test email I get the following message Cannot open smtp.gmail.com:587 thoughts?

April 27, 201115 yr Author Your syslog indicates that the DNS is not working. Try manually setting DNS. Google servers are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. How would I do this? Because it would be different than the network DNS?
April 27, 201115 yr Set "Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically" to "No" and try the google addresses.

April 28, 201115 yr Author Set "Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically" to "No" and try the google addresses. This may require a restart. Have you tried restarting? Yes I have restarted. Won't changing the dns screw up my normal network connection? Sorry im still learning here!
April 28, 201115 yr Author Update: I finished writing files to my server, and tried setting the DNS manually. I still cannot ping the server?

April 29, 201115 yr Author Here's the network settings that I have on my server and on my computer... According to what I'm thinking, they match up...but I could very well be missing something that I am just overlooking.... Like I said, I can ping smtp.gmail.com from my computer with no problems at all...
April 29, 201115 yr You'll need these values: Router (Gateway): 10.8.0.1 Subnet Mask (Netmask): 255.255.0.0 Domain Name Servers (DNS): 10.0.0.29, 10.0.0.30, 10.0.0.230 When you set both of the "Obtain ... Automatically" to Yes under network settings these are the values that should be filled in automatically. The IP Address needs to be unique. When both options are set to Yes what values are being filled in? If you set "Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically" to "No", you can enter these addresses manually and/or use the google addresses. If you set "Obtain IP Address Automatically" to "No", you'll need to manually enter the same address that was assigned automatically, and the Netmask and Gateway given above.

I'm confused as to what you are saying here... In the pic above, the Screenshot on the right is the current tower network settings. These were assigned AUTOMATICALLY by the network... I guess I'm confused to what you are saying, because the automatic values match what they network assigned to my computer. According to looking at this...it doesn't seem like it's an "set automatically" issue. It seems to me that the issue is somewhere else, because the network settings seem right?? FTR: I cannot ping pool.ntp.org either for my time settings. For some reason I'm not getting outside internet access?
April 29, 201115 yr I only saw the left most screen. Is that from your PC? I didn't scroll right to see the Tower settings. Are you required to register hosts on your network? You can try turning off your PC and then setting the tower to use the same MAC address as your PC. If that fixes it then your network requires the hosts be registered.

I'm not sure if our network does. I will text one of the tech guys...
April 29, 201115 yr Author Also, how would/could you change the MAC address on the tower? I don't see it as a configurable option. Or do I need to do that through the shell?
