Last night I was trying to get WOL to work. It's work sorta! but I need to get it properlly working. That will be another help topic when needs after my due of search forum first.

 

My unRaid server is sitting in the basement behind the cable modem and cisco wireless router.

 

The firewall on the ciscor is on. The wireless is not broadcasting it ID and wireless access is allowed with MAC address filter only. i.e. only 2 MAC will allow wireless connection.

 

my question is am I safe from hacking ?. I have no plan to do any web managerment over the web for a long while.

Do you have a password that is fairly strong on the wireless network?  if not I suggest setting one.  The MAC filtering is a nice step but MAC address can be spoofed fairly easily.

Also do not use WEP.  It is broken and cannot be made secure whatever settings you use.  The only positive thing to say is that its better than no encryption at all

 

You should be using WPA2 with a 10+ character password which includes numbers, symbols and letters and preferably is not based on a word.

 

I  didn't know that MAc filter can be sproofed.

 

I did have WPA2 but just a passphrase 12+ phrase thta I can remember

 

I will double check the setting again and change to a combination number,character and symbol.
