Hangs during the start of reboot process

Featured Replies

I am using version 5-beta6a. I am not able to reboot using the web GUI's reboot button or typing "reboot" via the console, the system hangs.

I have also unmenu and cleanpowerdown package installed. Every time when I attempt to reboot the system, the system hangs - I lose the connection to GUI, no telnet connection either. I need to power down and reboot using the power button. Thereafter, I have no problems with booting or starting the array. I did not have this problem earlier. Before attempting any reboot, I stop the array first.

The last lines captured in syslog are as follows:

Apr 28 23:58:02 MEDIACENTER status[10204]: No active PIDS on the array

Apr 28 23:58:03 MEDIACENTER rc.unRAID[10237]: Killing active pids on the array drives

Apr 28 23:58:03 MEDIACENTER rc.unRAID[10241]: Umounting the drives

Apr 28 23:58:03 MEDIACENTER rc.unRAID[10245]: umount: /mnt/disk*: not found

Apr 28 23:58:03 MEDIACENTER rc.unRAID[10245]: Could not find /mnt/disk* in mtab

Apr 28 23:58:03 MEDIACENTER rc.unRAID[10247]: Stopping the Array

Apr 28 23:58:03 MEDIACENTER kernel: mdcmd (16): stop

Apr 28 23:58:03 MEDIACENTER kernel: md: stop_array: not started

Apr 28 23:58:08 MEDIACENTER logger: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1:  /sbin/route del default

after that I loose the telnet session and the host closes the connection. I will appreciate very much if you could kindly help.

PS: I have monitored syslog via the telnet session after reboot command and captured the outcome, which is attached. Of note, only the last part is attached since I have noticed that the file has "confidential" data like user names and admin password in it. If it is really necessary, I need to go manually through it and remove all unnecessary info which I would not dispose it here. Hope you understand.

What you posted is insufficient. There should be no passwords in the syslog. If there are then something very wrong is going on.

Why should I lie or try to sound cynical. Look at the following: XXXXX is my admin password and yyyy, zzzz, wwww are the user names.

Apr 28 23:58:01 MEDIACENTER ident.cfg[10187]: localMaster="yes"

Apr 28 23:58:01 MEDIACENTER ident.cfg[10187]: DOMAIN_LOGIN="Administrator"

Apr 28 23:58:01 MEDIACENTER ident.cfg[10187]: DOMAIN_PASSWD="XXXXXXX"

....

Apr 28 23:58:01 MEDIACENTER DATA.cfg[10190]: shareWriteList="yyyyy,zzzz,wwww"

....

Something wrong is going on. Those lines are not in a normal syslog. What add-ons are you running?

After removing confidential data, I attach to this post the entire syslog file which I have captured via the terminal during the shutting down for reboot process. Once the system starts, I do not see any problems or issues - I do not have any sync errors or etc. The only problem is I cannot get it shut down before a reboot :(

I have the following installed:

AirVideo (stopped)

bwm-ng

C compiler

cxxlibs

DS_Store cleanupscript

HandBrake (stopped)

hdparm

iStat

Jre

Isof

mail and ssmtp

unRaid Status Alert

Midnight Commander

Monthly Parity Check

Exclude directories beginning with "_"

openssh

openssl-solibs

clean Powerdown

reiserfsprogs version 3.6.21

rsync

SMART

Could anybody have a look at the syslog attached and help please? Thanks in advance for your patience.

From what I can see, the array is stopped.

The only piece missing is the actual powerdown.  Is that what you are referring to when you say it does not shut down for a reboot?

Are you saying it does not power down?

Or, are you saying it does not reboot itself (without turning off power) and re-start when a reboot command is issued?

To power itself down, you would need to have it supported by your BIOS.  Your syslog is not from a fresh reboot, so I cannot see if it is enabled or not and detected by the OS.

I mean exactly THAT which you are referring to.

Please find enclosed the new syslog from a fresh reboot (MAC address and GUID no removed).

Thnx very much Joe - I was hoping to see you get involved :)
