Qwest + unRaidNotify

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm sorry if this is the wrong thread but I wanted to share this info incase someone else is having problems with Qwest dsl.

I've had my service shutoff roughly once a week over the past 2 months because Qwest had detected a virus on my network.  I ended up wasting several hours with their 'technical support' staff and they kept insisting I had the rustock virus.  They weren't able to specify how they are detecting the virus or provide me with any kind of network trace that showed the illicit outbound traffic.  After some googling I found that rustock is a win32 exploit that turns your windows machine into a spambot.  Well the only problem with that theory is that my network computers are all macs.

I spent several hours with them getting nowhere over the course of 2 months, I was just about to switch ISPs then I thought just for the fun of it let me turn off unRaidNotify.  I had this package setup to use port 25 and connect to gmail's smtp relay server.  I shut it off two weeks ago and haven't been disconnected since.  It's unfortunate that they aren't able to tell the difference between my intended smtp traffic and an alleged spambot....

I just wasted a lot of time and grief on this so I thought I would post it incase anyone happens to run into this situation.  I guess I could reconfigure the stmp settings, or even try encryption, but for now ill leave it as is.

Ohh well.  As payback I'm going to torrent the world, and suck as much bandwidth as possible.  I hate ISPs they are modern day mafia.

Chris
