Server never clears drives?

Featured Replies

Hi!

I built my first unRAID. I have now added disks to a total of 7 plus parity. The strange thing is, it has never cleared any drives, even though they were not new and had files from my Drobo/Windows & Mac machines on them. All the dashboard asked me to do was format, then they were available.

As I keep reading how many hours clearing disks takes, I am wondering why on earth my server never does this?

I am running 4.7, with 6x1TB WD Grean and 1x2TB WD EARS as a parity drive. System is set to 4k aligned.

you added parity last.

The unRAID array will clear the drives once you have parity established.

No problem.

Did you pre-clear the disks to allow them to detect and re-allocate any bad sectors.  (That would also prevent unRAID from doing the "clear" with the array off-line on its own.)
