Unassigned Devices Preclear - a utility to preclear disks before adding them to the array

Featured Replies

I believe something is not working correctly with this plugin, if you load the plugin from the Tools menu you just get the moving/loading unRAID logo and can't interact with anything.  It does still work from the Main tab under Unassigned devices.  I tried reinstalling the plugin as well same issue.  Running 7.0.0-rc.2.  Attached Diagnostics if need.

Yeah I have already removed that disk, it stopped initializing a few days ago, figured I'd try it again after giving it a few days to rest but still no dice.  It is not installed currently and still can't load the Preclear page.  Can't reboot right now as pre-clear is still running.

Do the following:

  • While on the preclear page type ctrl-shift-j and see if there are any Java Script errors.
  • Go to Tools->PHP Settings and see if there are any PHP warnings/errors.
  • Post a screen shot of the UD page.

I don't see any errors in the Chrome console nor in the PHP Settings.  I just tested on another server also on 7.0.0-rc2 and it has the same issue as well.

Are you installing tmux with another plugin or package?

Not intentionally at least - the test server has only Community Apps, Dynamix System Stats, Unassigned Devices + Plus and Unassigned Devices Preclear installed and still has the issue.  You can still use the Pre-clear functionality from the Main tab under Unassigned Devices as on my main server as well.

Can confirm this behavior on my 7.0.0-rc2 box as well

Post diagnostics.

I can grab them later but do you not have a test server on 7.0.0-rc2 you can verify yourself on?  I thought all developers tested plugins on the RC versions.

You answered what I needed.  I was concerned that it was an older Unraid version.  I am running 7.0.0-rc2 and I do not see the issue, but I'm looking into it.

That issue,

Quote

you just get the moving/loading unRAID logo and can't interact with anything

also exists on 6.12.14

loading.thumb.PNG.889fdfb0063b92acc839dd921555f914.PNG

BUT, in 6.12.14 you can actually hover over the buttons and get the button info and press the buttons on the top right, which doesnt work on 7-RC2. All you have is a spinning curser. Locks up everything basically because the Dashboard and Main links stop working too

Edit: The issue starts appearing with version 2024.12.05 for 6.12.14 @dlandon

It's an issue with Chrome.  Probably with a recent update.  Fixed in today's release.

Working for me now with the updated 12.29 version, thanks!

Hi all!

When trying to check a drive with PreClear, the plugin runs in a “Low memory detected, aborting ...” error.
The PreClear Read ran successfully, the actual PreClear aborted after 1h. And now the error message always appears immediately, although only 70% of 64Gb Ram is in use.

Jan 01 12:01:18 preclear_disk_WL20VL9M_23058: Low memory detected, aborting ...
Jan 01 12:01:18 preclear_disk_WL20VL9M_23058: Zeroing: zeroing the disk failed!

Running Running PreClear 2024.12.29 on Unraid 6.12.14.

Drive is a 16TB Seagate Exos

I only have logs after I restarted the preclear.

Cheers,

Daniel

The rootfs is used for a disk buffer by preclear and it is quite full:

Jan 01 11:23:46 preclear_disk_WL20VL9M_21211: rootfs 32808748 28269032 4539716 87% /

Something is using a lot of memory on rootfs.  Try to figure out what it is and rectify it.

Hi dlandon,

Thanks for the feedback, I had a look and apparently the mover tuning plugin has escalated a bit.

root@Ananas:/tmp# du -sh /tmp/ca.mover.tuning/
31G /tmp/ca.mover.tuning/

I removed it and cleared the temp path and it works again. Thanks for the hint, now it works again.

You learn something new every day!

Cheers,

Daniel

Sorry , i forgot do we need to skip  Pre-read verification ?

All other disk i have not diasbled by logs but seems pre read not needed ?

Preclear is not needed at all, whether you use it and how is your choice, often the point is to test the drive to hopefully catch an early failure so you decide how long you want to dedicate to doing so.

Having issues with the pre-clear plugin. I let it run and it's now finished. Signature has been written to the disk but when I add it to the array it wants to erase the disk again.

I have a diagnostic file as well that I'm happy to add.

UNRaid 7.0.0, having trouble copying to a mounted SMB share, I can see the contents of the shares and copy/move the files to UNRaid, but I have no option of /mnt/remotes/ when trying to copy from UNRaid to the shares, I had makemkv and ripper extract to smb shares, can no longer do so as the path is not available, doesn't show as an option, I can cd into /mnt/remotes and see the shares there.

You should be posting this question here:

You are posting in the preclear post.

The answer to the question is you can't copy files from a user share to a UD mounted share at /mnt/remotes/ with the file manager because the selection for /mnt/remotes/ is not available.  Feel free to post a feature request.

Apologies dlandon, I never copped that... I have deleted the post and asked in the correct forum, thank you.

The disk will have to be formatted when you add it to the array. That will erase any data on the disk. I believe that’s what you are seeing the warning for.
